CM announces construction of road to connect Sibu Jaya to Lanang

SIBU: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg today announced the construction of 6-kilometre (km) road, costing RM60 million to connect Sibu Jaya township to Lanang area here.

He said the road which will be of R3 standard (tarred) will have four lanes.

When completed in time to come, the travelling distance from the township to Sibu will be shortened.

“I think the road will be completed in about two and half years’ time, and residents in SibuJaya will only take between 10 and 15 minutes to reach Lanang. JKR (Public Works Department) will work on it,” Abang Johari said during the leader-meet-the-people session in SibuJaya.

“In that way, people will not have to go ‘round-the-world’ to reach Sibu,” he jested as the some 3,000 crowds burst into laughters.

For the record, Sibu Jaya is located about 26km from Sibu town.

Abang Johari also announced the construction of house of worship costing about RM30 million for the Muslim community.

He also said a big hall will also be built in the township for gathering of communities of different backgrounds, wedding ceremonies.

Other announcement included enhancing the library in line with the digital economy so that children can learn using the new tools.

He also disclosed a new school will be built under 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK11).

“I give assurance that Sibu Jaya will continue to grow and become more vibrant,” Abang Johari added.

On another note, he said he had negotiated with Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and recommended Robert Lau Hui Yew for senatorship.

“Hence, there will be three representatives from Sibu in Putrajaya if the people give strong mandate to BN candidate for Lanang Kelvin Kong and Sibu – Dato Andrew Wong on May 9 election. And we can develop Sibu more comprehensively,” he said.

Among those present were Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi, Assistant Minister for Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King, BN candidate for Lanang Kelvin Kong Sien Chiu, corporate figure Tan Sri Bustari Yusof and Temenggong Stanley Gramong.
